We have a strange phenomenon in our Active Directory. The
following problems are accuring:

- i have a group (xyz) and i gave them the security
settings they need (on a OU) to add computer to a domain.
everything is good until a new user comes to the group!
he's not able to add ws to the domain. is there any
replication running?

- i have also a gpo on the default domain policy that
enables that xyz group add ws to domain!

does anybody has a answer for that strange behavior?

thanks in advance
miasmo

Hello,

Does this user get an error, when trying to add the workstation?

Has this user added more than 10 workstations?

Is this user in any other group that may be conflicting?

How many groups does this user belong to [user that is having the problem].

Thank You.

Diana.

Diana,

We finally fixed the problem. Some Users can't type passwords... ;-)

by the way can you answer me that question:
some users (xp clients) in our active directory have some strange
symtoms when they change their password randomly. our policy is 30
days until the next change. the problem is they change it randomly and
the next day they have to change it again in 5 days (a pop up: user
much change password in 5 days) then they change it and the next day
again a pop-up: user much change password in 4 days... and so on.

do you have an idea? it happens only with xp-clients!

Hello,

That is great news.

I will check on your second issue and post back.

Hello,

We have seen this issue, but we have not yet confirmed the cause.

The msgina is what is used to interpret the expiration date.

Are you using Netware of PCAnywhere on these xp machines?
-- they will load their own gina [nwgina and awgina]

I did find a hotfix that has a more current msgina file, please let me know
if you would like to test it on one of your winxp machines.

Thank You.

Diana.

can you send me the fix?

Hello Miasmo,

What is the email address that you want me to send the hotfix to?

Diana
