Two computers talking to each other is a network. In XP,
if you want to share access of one with another you need
to provide a legal name and password for the person
wanting access. Try this. Use the same name and
password as the user on the other computer. That should
do the trick.

The need for matching user names and passwords applies to XP
Professional in some cases, Thom and Kristian, but it doesn't apply to
XP Home Edition.

XP Home Edition allows access by everyone on the network. All you
need to do to eliminate the password prompt when accessing XP Home is
to run the Network Setup Wizard on each computer to fully enable file
sharing.

The only exception is if you've created a password for the Guest
account. In that case, enter that password at the prompt.

What networking tools did you install, Kristian?

Do you mean when I downloaded the latest networking tools
from the Windows Update site? I didn't manually install
any, just downloaded the program and it installed
itself. Now, if you're asking which protcols I've got,
they are: Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Printer
Sharing for Microsoft Networks, QoS Packet Scheduler,
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). I'll try your suggestion
regarding the home networking.

The network items that you list are normal. I was asking what
happened when, as you said, you "installed the networking tools on the
Windows XP update site." What tools are those? Where do you see
them?
