Walter R.

My computer and IE6 is working fine and I can access all websites on the web
with one exception: http://www.scrippsclinic.com

I always get a 404 message: Site not found. My wife's computer, which is on
the same cable modem, has no problem getting into this site.

Windows XP SP2, IE6

Why only this one site. What could be blocking only this site on only my
computer??

Try clearing out all your temp files.

Then Press the Start button
Click on Run
Type CMD
At the command prompt type: "ipconfig /flushdns" (note the space and don't
use the quotes of course)
Press Enter

"Successfully flushed DNS", alas, it did not improve matters. I had
suspected the DNS server but I did not know how to flush it. Thanks, anyway.

This is really weird. Any other ideas? How do I "flush" the Hosts file?
Although nothing seems to be in the Hosts file.

Just rename it hosts.txt or host.old or something.

Thanks again. Inactivating the HOSTS file did not meet with success either.
This is a real puzzler. Why only this one website out of 3 billion? Of
course, that's the one site I really need to get into. :-(

Murphy's Law?

You removed all the temp files, removed the DNS cache, and have no checked
the hosts file.

The next logical step would be to check your firewall, router, etc to see if
it is blocking it.

I hate to sound "logical" but, well, you notice it 'cause it is the one
you're trying to get into. ;)

Have you tried an alternative browser? I'd like to at least confirm it isn't
an IE problem.

You say you get "a 404 message". Details?
E.g. is there a change in the Address bar?

FWIW I get an immediate redirect with the above link to:

http://www.scripps.org/Locations.asp?ID=402

Better check for spyware. E.g. normally transparent spyware on your
machine may be messing up in trying to handle this need to redirect.

You could try using FiddlerTool to see the exact requests and responses.

Good luck
