This morning, when I clicked on my shortcut to IE, I
received an immediate error message saying Windows had to
shut down the program. I cannot get my browser to open,
therefore I cannot reinstall IE or troubleshoot. Any
suggestions?

if you click on the tab for details does it give you some
file name where the error is occurring, eg, kernel32.dll?

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.
