hi;
I have recently setup a server in remote site.Static IP is assigned but two
to three times in a day a strange thing happens, locally in the site the
users can access the server, but from remote branch i cannot access it so i
have to login via users PC and by initiating remote connection to server
change the IP to a new IP then i am able to access it. Please let me know if
you have any idea why a server can be accessed locally but not remotely if
the IP is changed it only work for two or three hours then again i have to
change it back.What can be the problem?
Thanks

You need to report ***how*** you're accessing the server remotely.

I am accessing the server via Remote Consol + realvnc and when i am pinging
it, for sometimes it gives response and then suddenly stop reply.
Thanks

If you can ping your server via the Internet some of the time
but not at other times then you have a connection problem.
Ask a friend to ping it from a different site, using this command:

ping YourIPAddress -t > c:\ping.txt

If his pings are intermittent then you have a problem with the
ISP or with the equipment at the server site. If his pings
are always successful then you have a problem with the ISP
or with the equipment at the remote site.

Hi;
Thanks for the reply,
Actually ISP has no issues because i can continuously ping modem. Between
modem and server we have firewall and switch. Now when i am pinging the
server it works fine but only for two or three hours then again i have to
change the server IP to a new one. We are also facing the problem with one
client as well. Neither i can ping his PC nor he can ping any remote server
but when i am logging to server then via VNC i can connect to his PC and even
he can use internet. This problem is very strange i tried all the possible
testing such as replacing the switch and allowing any traffic to firewall.

Thanks

When solving seemingly unsolvable problems it is important
to break them down into small components and eliminate one by
one until you find the culprit. This is why I suggested that you
should perform your ping tests from various sites.

Hi;
Thanks for the reply.
I have seen the similar post "Cannot access the server" by etq. We did the
same we have changed the office from one location to another but the
configuration is the same.

Actually as you have mentioned that i have to ping from another site, it
cannot be because we have blocked ICMP traffic which can only ping the main
office but not the other offices.

Now what is strange is that , server cannot be the problem as far as i know
because no firewall or any thing else is configured over it except
AD,DNS,DHCP.If the server is turned of why some clients are not being able to
ping both sides.

Thanks

Hi;
The problem is solved by upgrading the PIX IOS to newer version. Thanks for
the support.
