I have 2 PCs running Windows XP Pro on a peer network and while one can
access the others SharedDocs Folder the other can't I have checked the
shared options are set, disabled firewalls etc but still get the message:

"\\red\SharedDocs is not accessible. You might not have permissions to use
the resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you
have access permissions.

Not enough server storage is available to process this command."

I am unable to access any folder on the C drive (NTFS format) but can access
the D drive (FAT) if I set the sharing permissions.

Any ideas please 'cos I have tried everthing I can think of.

This error indicates that you are falling foul of the IRPStackSize bug.

The problem is on the machine you are attempting to connect to,
not the machine where you see the error message.

On the computer you are attempting to connect to,
Check the event viewer for an event ID 2011.

Usual fix :
You need to fix a parameter called IRPStackSize

On the computer you are attempting to connect to,
Set the IRPStackSize back to the default (15 ).
Perform the following steps:

1. Start the registry editor (e.g., regedit.exe).
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\
Services\lanmanserver\parameters.
3. Double-click IRPStackSize
(or if this registry setting doesn't exist, create it of
type DWORD and ensure the case is correct).
4. Change the base to decimal, set the value to 15, and click OK.
5. Reboot the computer.

Norton AV is usual suspect for breaking it.

There's a KB article about this, too.

Ron

That's great - it fixed it and I do use Norton AntiVirus!

Thanks very much for your help and so quick too.

Dear Ron,

I have a similar but apparently not identical problem. I
have two computers on a wired network using a Linksys
router. I have internet connectivity on both. The new
computer "sees" the SharedDocs folder on the old
computer, but not vice versa. I checked the Event Viewer
and didn't find an event of type 2011. I checked the
Registry and, not finding a parameter for IRPStackSize, I
created one per your instructions. (This is all new
territory for me!) I rebooted both computers but the
situation remained the same.

Oh, and I previously ran all the way through the relevant
Troubleshooter at the Help and Support Center.
Everything seems to be set up correctly, but...

I am running Norton AV and Norton Internet Security.
However, at one point I uninstalled Norton IS to see if
that was the problem, but that also made no difference.

Any further advice?

Thanks,

Kerry
