I'm trying to access a shared folder on a win2k pro
computer at my office from my home computer (also win2k
pro), using a VPN connection. I can successfully establish
a VPN connection, but cannot see any resources on the
office computer. The office computer is on the same
network as a telephone system which provides VoIP to 2
remote sites. The phone system is behind a hardware
firewall and the computer uses a software firewall. The
office computer also uses a public IP address and a subnet
mask 255.255.255.240. I think it has something to do with
the subnet mask address not passing through to my home
computer, and I'm not sure how to set that up. Either that
or the phone system affects it somehow? Thanks

Neither of those things should affect access to the machine. How are you
trying to access the shares? A VPN connection doesn't carry broadcasts, so
you may not be able to access the machine by name. If you click on the VPN
connection icon and click the Details tab, you will see the "server"
machine's IP address. Try doing a net view \\IPaddress to see the machine's
shared files.

I tried using net view with 2 other computers. I get error
53 on one client with a direct internet connection with a
cable modem. And error 5 on another client connected to a
router with a cable modem. I can ping both server and
client VPN IP addresses. I guess that would be my next
question, how do I access the server's shares from the
client computers after I've established a connection? I
thought it would be through either windows explorer or IE.
