Cannot access outlook, keeps asking for password.

I havent been able to access my e-mail account for the last couple of weeks.
When I open outlook it gets so far then the pop up box asks me for my
password but when i submit it just keeps asking again and again. I have used
this with no problems for the last couple of years and have not changed any
of my settings so I really can't understand what is wrong. I have checked my
account settings and they are all fine.
I get the following error message:
Receiving reported error (0x800CCC92): Your e-mail server rejected your
login. Verify your user name and password in your account properties.
Any help would be appreciated.

Version of Outlook?
Type of mail account?
Can you login directly via the web based mail client provided by your ISP?

Do you have a virus scanner installed which integrates itself with Outlook?
Uninstall this integration part of your virus scanner and try again; you'd
still be sufficiently protected by your on-access scanner part of the virus
