Cannot access other computers

Have win2k (sp4) pc that can no longer access shared
folders and printers on home network. This has worked for
a long time. I have recently installed (and uninstalled)
Cisco VPN client. Assume this may have been the culprit,
still does not work after uninstall. Have checked all the
simple stuff - file/print sharing, netbios, etc. Any
thoughts what could be preventing access?

Are all computers in the same workgroup, do all useraccounts exist on all
computers? Is the Server-service running?

Begging to differ, I have been connecting to this pc for 2
years. It is not a user problem, it is something in the
windows networking connection on the win2k pc. I have 2
win98 pcs, a small NT server and a laser printer that
cannot be seen or accessed, can ping each of them. I
still think it is VPN related but uninstalling and
reinstalling the Cisco software has not helped either.
Cisco support site search sucks, turned up nothing useful.

(Sorry if I am ranting, have work to do & am forced to
rewire everything or do floppy transfers just to print).

Greg, I have been having nearly the EXACT same problem
with my home network now for the last three months. I've
been using a D-Link Router to connect three computers (two-
Win2k and one-Win98SE) to the internet and to each other.
Everything was working fine until one day when it all went
bad. First one of the Win2k machines went down; no
network/no internet, and once fixed, the Win98SE mach went
down. Fixed the problem on that one only to have the other
Win2k machine lose networking all together.

Like you, I've been receiving the "Network Path Not Found"
error along with "System Error 53 has occurred." when I
try "netview.exe" from the command prompt. I am totally
frustrated and need to get this resolved! I've been
communicating with Marina Roos, as you have, but
unfortunately her recommendations have not made an
improvement. Looking at the ipconfig/all command results
showed both of the Win2k machines to have exactly the
setup. Yet still the other Win2k and Win98SE machs can
communicate on the network, and see MY computer, but mine
sees no one. Can ping them, but nothing else.

I would be more than glad to exchange any information I
can come up with on a fix for this problem. It seems to me
that, as you said, there is something wrong with the
networking and not in the users. I changed the user info
and it made no difference. If everything that I have set
up right now works for the other machines, it should work
for MINE too. Arrgghhh! I empathize with you.
