My Home/Church Office network consists of four pc's (Two desktops, a tablet
pc and a notebook pc.) Up until Friday, the two desktops and notebook pc's
ran XP Profession and the Tablet pc ran Vista Ultimate. In that
configuration I could access the drives on either pc from any of the others
with no problem.
On Friday, I ungraded one desktop and the notebook to Vista Ultimate,
leaving one desktop running XP Professional. All appeared to go well but
when I went to use them this morning I found I had problems. I hope I can
explain my symptoms clearly enough that someone can help me resolve the
problem. Here goes:
The desktop with Vista can access/read/write files on the drives of the
other desktop (XP Professional), the notebook (Vista Ultimate) and the
Tablet PC (Vista Ultimate) with no problems. The notebook can do the same
with both desktop but gives me an access error when trying to access the
drives on the Tablet. The drives show up in explorer but when I try to
open/browse the drive I get a Network error stating that I cannot access the
drive. clicking the Diagnose button reveals that the drive is available but
the user account that I logged on with was denied access.
I get the same error on the tablet pc when trying to access the vista
desktop or vista notebook but can read/write to the XP desktop. It appears
like it might be a permissions problem but I have no idea where sice the
symptoms are slightly different from system to system. Again, the was no
problem read/writing files to any drive from either system until I undated
the notebook and one desktop.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
