Has anyone experienced a problem with changing the
Internet Options under the Tools menu? Since downloading
the newest 6.xxx version from the Windows site, I cannot
change my Internet Options. I get a message saying that
there are restrictions on my computer, and my home page
has permanently changed to the MSN website.

Help!!!

Reset the Internet Explorer tabs and remove all the browser restrictions.
Download the script from:

Remove IE Restrictions & Restore Missing tabs
http://www.angelfire.com/dragon/sramesh2k/reg/IE_reset_restrictions.reg

Also, refer Fix 268 from Kelly's site:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Restore All tabs in IE and Removes the ** Internet Options ** Restrictions
as well

The problem is due to a spyware. Download Ad-Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com,
scan the system and eliminate the malware products. Re-apply the above fix
if necessary.
** Remember to update the pattern file using WebUpdate in Ad-Aware **

This helped me:

(backup your registry first)to learn how, visit
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=322756

1) Open the Registry Editor by click start, run, and then
typing Regedit. Click
OK
2) Open
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\POLICIES\MICROSOFT\INTERNET
EXPLORER\Restrictions
3) In the right pane, check to see if the Nobrowseroptions
entry exists. If so,
right click the Nobrowseroptions entry, and click delete
to remove it. Close
Registry Editor and restart the computer.
4) The options menu should now be available.

and also to be able to reset the home page:

My original problem:

I had selected "set browser default settings" under the
tools menu, the last menu option under "Internet Options".
Now I can't access Internet Options. A window titled
Restrictions comes up with the message:
"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in
effect on this computer. Please contact your system
administrator."
So how do I cancel the restriction and allow
access to Internet Options?
