Hi,
If you use Spybot S&D, open Spybot in Advanced mode and check the Immunize
settings. You may have placed this restriction inadvertently.

If not ... go to Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Scroll down to
"Various Registry Fixes"

Next (same page) check for parasites and other malware which may have caused
this, if Spybot didn't.

No I have no Spybot, and I have scanned with AdAware and Pestpatrol and
there are no spyware and parasites.

I can use again the Internet options. But no access to Manage Add-ons, and
when I click on a URL on my desktop, it will not open in IE6. Insteed I
got a message: windows can not open this file etc etc etc. To open etc etc
select from a list of programs on your computer.

Any other suggestions?? Please.

Hi,
I'm not sure why you can't access "Manage add-ons." For the other problem,
try these steps:
1. Make sure that IE is the default browser. See tip #41 at
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFAQ.htm
2. Check the file association for URL:HTTP See the "If nothing happens when
you click a link:" section at http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

Hello Don,
That's make the trick!! It's working again. The only problem still is the
non-access to the "managing the add-ons".
Thank you for your great help!!
gr. Thim.

Thim,
Adding to advice from Frank and Robert...
It is very possible that malware set this restriction on "manage add-ons."
You should check this machine for spyware, trojans, etc.

Manage add-ons is probably disabled via one of these registry keys:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Restrictions]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Restrictions]
If either of these keys has the DWORD value "NoExtensionManagement" in the
right pane, modifying the value from 1 to 0 will disable the restriction.

You could also export the key (as a backup) and delete the DWORD value,
"NoExtensionManagement."

I have scanned the register for "NoExtensionManagement",
this can not be found.

The trouble was started when a relative want to "surprise" me with the
beta version of IE7. I don't like it and wanted to go back to IE6. That
was successfully, but in the "About" popup is "Version: 7.0.5112.0." etc
etc etc. I can live with that, but I think the restoring is not quite
allright and 1 of the results is the no entry to the add-ons management.

Thanks for your suggestions, Thim.
