Dear Newsgroup,

I did some upgrading on AOL, Adobe Reader, and Real One,
and next time I tried to use Internet Options from the
Tools tab on the Toolbar of Internet Explorer. I keep
getting a restriction message box every time I try to
access my options. Although it tells me to contact my
System Administrator, I am the only one who uses the
computer, so I am the System Administator.

If I go to the alternate way of getting to the Internet
Options, by going to the Control Panel and Internet
Options, the Home Page part is grayed out, so I cannot
access this directly either.

When I try to get tech help from the program people or
the manufacturer, everyone passes the buck, although they
say this is a glitch in Microsoft XP, nobody knows how to
repair the situation. Does anybody have an answer?
Please reply to (e-mail address removed).

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Stan Rosentock

Stan,
Did you by chance run SpyBot's Immunize feature?
"Lock IE control panel against opening from within IE (current user)"

Hi Stan,

Remove IE Restrictions & Restore Missing tabs. Download a fix from:
http://www.angelfire.com/dragon/sramesh2k/reg/IE_reset_restrictions.reg

Also, refer Fix 268 from Kelly's site:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Restore All tabs in IE and Removes the ** Internet Options ** Restrictions
as well

The problem may be due to:

1. A spyware. Download Ad-Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com, scan the system
and eliminate the malware products. Re-apply the above fix if necessary.
** Remember to update the pattern file using WebUpdate in Ad-Aware **

( Caused by a malware called CoolWebSearch. Also, Download:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip )

2. You have enabled SpyBot immunize (protection) feature or any other
similar software.
