Jeff

I get an email, I read it, I delete it, when I
click "deleted files" my computer locks up and will not
access that file. There are items in my "deleted files",
I cannot access them. I am receiving and sending email
and I am able to connect to the internet.

The Deleted Items folder has become corrupted by storing mail in it.
Try this first. If it doesn't fix the problem, you're going to have
to make a new Deleted Items folder, and I cannot guarantee you will
be able to retrieve the mail in it.

Do not archive mail on default OE folders. They will eventually
become corrupted. Create your own user defined folders for storing
mail and move your mail to them. Move mail from *all* OE default
folders.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually
while working *offline* and do it often.

File>Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar).
File>Folder>Compact all folders.

In Tools>Options>Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background
and leave it unchecked.

See if you can open Deleted Items now. If you can, get the mail out
of there and repeat the compacting process.

I tried that and you may have fixed my problem, only
time will tell and I appreciate your help. I do not
understand about creating my own "user defined folder".
For instance I create a new folder named "deleted
emails".Does that mean that I will have to manually move
received email to my own "deleted emails" folder by
dragging and dropping after having read them? Now, I have
removed my on screen address book and cannot restore it,
can you help?

Jeff,
By User Defined, I mean to go to File>Folder>New and create your own
folders for storing mail. Have Local Folders highlighted after you
click New and it will create the folder in the tree. When you get an
e-mail that you want to keep, just right click on the message header
and Move to that folder. You can create as many as you want and as
sub folders also.

OE default folders like Deleted Items have a limit of about 2 GB, but
they will become corrupted long before that.

I have no idea what happened to your Contact list. Nothing I
explained would have anything to do with that. Did you check
View>Layout>Contacts?

If you need any further help, this is the link for the OE specific
newsgroup:

Good luck:
