Cannot access cdrw drive or "a" drive after sp2 installation

Can anyone advise how to correct the problem I currently have ? I cannot
access any files on my cdrw or a drive discs now after installing sp2 - I
also have an icon on my sys tray that shows a network connection problem and
my pc was never connected to a network - it's a stand alone pc.

First off:
For the network icon, open Control Panel, Network Connections, and right
click on your LAN connection and select Disable. Remember, if you want to
use it on a network later, you'll have to enable it.

Second:
It sounds like SP2 scrambled some of your controller drivers
Try this. Right click My Computer, select Manage, select Device Manager, in
the right pane expand Floppy Disk Controller, right click on the one device
listed and select uninstall. Reboot the computer to let XP redetect and
reinstall the driver.

Third:
You didn't state what type or kind of computer this is. If it's an AMD based
computer, you should install the latest drivers for your motherboard from
the manufacturer of the motherboard. Well, I'd do the same even if it was
Intel based.
