Recently my internet explorer 6 w/ service pack 1 stopped working. It
"cannot detect proxy settings". I have DSL (Verizon) on a wireless card. I
have Windows XP, service pack 1. It was working fine, and then it just
stopped. I have it set to automatically detect settings, where it has
always been. Outlook Express works fine. Any ideas. Please let me know if
you need any further information.

Thanks

I tried the commands, still doesn't work. The connection is the same name.
Unfortunately, I can't download XP sp2 because you have to do it with
automatic update, which doesn't work unless you are using Internet Explorer.
Also, I tried downloaded another Microsoft update but it doesn't work
because it can't find the proxy settings? I have tried just about
everything, but IE just won't detect the proxy settings. Any other
suggestions?

Thanks

Hi Renie,
Are you using a proxy, did you checked the Proxy configuration are all set
okay.
Try this:
Open a run command and type this:
ipconfig /flushdns click [OK]
netsh winsock reset click [OK] then Reboot your machine and see if you
can connect.
I'm affraid because you are using Wireless you are piclking the wrong
connection see if your Connection name is the one you establish connection
with in the Wireless properties.
Read this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829643
I recommend updating to SP2 and if you want to avoid some updates just
select custome option when you run the updates engine/webpage and uncheck the
ones you don't want to install.
HTH.
Regards,
nass
