I have an HP Pavilion running W98 on my home network, and
I can't seem to map network drive from the Pavilion to
the other computer on my network, which is a new Dell
Dimension desktop running XP. I am, however, able to map
from the Dell to the Pavilion, so the network connection
is up and running. I suspect there must be some network
setting in XP which I'm not familiar with which prevents
the HP from seeing the Dell. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Did u disable the ICF for LAN connection?

Hi Peter,
I posted just before you and am having the same problem.

Also, it could have to do with netboui not being on the
XP. Check out the following article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;301041#Task1

I don't have an XP CD, so I can't do it. If you get it
to work using the files, please let me know and/or try to
send them to me. Thanks!

Ramesh-

Thanks for the reply. Yes, ICF is indeed disabled on the
Dell running WinXP. And by the way, ICS is disabled on
the HP running Win98. Any other suggestions? It's
weird, I can map network drive from the Dell running XP
to the HP running Win98, but can't do the reverse. I get
an error message on the HP saying it doesn't recognize
the computer or share drive on the Dell. I also tried
pinging the Dell from the HP, and could not. I can
however successfully ping the HP from the Dell.

I used to have the same problem, then I installed NetBEUI
on the XP. I think it might have to do with the NetBEUI
between XP and 98. I know it fixed my problem. Also, IPX
or whatever like that I think i needed too. Hope it helps

Cari-

Thanks. Several people have told me the same thing. Th
network card on my HP is using NetBEUI though. Any
suggestions to fix this problem?

Peter
