When I cancel a meeting for which a resource has been booked. That
appointment remains in the resource's calendar with "Canceled:" tacked on it
in the subject. What am I missing here to make the appointment disappear
from the resource's calendar. Or is this behavior by design?

Do you also get the option to delete the appointment from the calendar? Are
you the meeting organizer? If you select the option to delete the
appointment, does it free the time?

No, I don't get the option to delete the appointment from the calendar. As
the meeting organizer, I schedule an appointment in my own calendar and
select the resource as a resource in my list of attendees. The mailbox on
the Exchange server behaves as it should, accepting the meeting request and
scheduling it in it's own calendar. And I receive the message that "The
resources for the meeting were successfully booked." When I choose to delete
that meeting from my calendar, I'm presented with a dialogue box that says
"The attendees have not been notified that this meeting "Subject" has been
canceled. Choose one of the following:" The radio button choices are "Send
cancellation and delete meeting." or "Delete without sending a
cancellation."

I leave the default "Send cancellation and delete meeting." selected and
click OK. The appointment is opened in a new window for me with an info
message at the top of the form stating "Meeting has been canceled. The
cancellation has not been sent for this meeting." The usual Save and Close
button in the toolbar is replaced by the Send button. I type nothing and
click the Send button. The appointment is removed from my calendar. When I
open the calendar folder of the resource's mailbox, the appointment remains
there with the word "Canceled:" prepended to the subject. I can manually
delete it from that calendar without any further prompting but it is not
removed automatically after any reasonable length of time.
