Cancel print

I can't figure out how to cancel a print job midstream! The stupidly useless "Microsoft Online Help" says to double-click on the printer icon on the toolbar (actually, when I do that nothing happens -- when I double click on the printer icon in the lower RH corner, however, it does open the printer status window). Then it says to highlight the document -- OK, so far, so good -- then click "Cancel" on the "Document Menu." There is no "Cancel" on my toolbar, no "Document Menu", nothing remotely resembling what's called for. HELP!!

What version of Windows are you using?

When you right-click the document in the printer's window, there should be a
Cancel option.

On the menu -- in Windows XP at least -- the main menu items should be
Printer Document View Help. With the document selected, when you click on
Document, options should be Pause, Resume, Restart, Cancel and Properties
(Resume should be grayed out since the document hasn't been paused at this
point).

If you have background printing enabled (Tools | Options | Print), then it's
highly unlikely you'll be able to catch a document on the way to the
spooler. That means you have to catch it in the Printers dialog, where there
is a toolbar. Select the document you want to stop printing and choose
Delete (or Cancel) on the Document menu (I may not have this exactly right
since I can't currently access the window). This will eventually stop the
printing, but many pages will already have spooled to the printer (if it's a
laser printer), and it will keep right on chugging.

You're in luck if your printer has a Cancel Job button; this is actually
pretty efficient. Taking the printer offline will stop it, but you'll still
have to delete the print job or it will start up again as soon as you put
the printer back online (even turning the printer off and back on sometimes
doesn't help). The quickest way to stop printing in a printer that has a
direct paper source (open tray or gravity feed) is to remove the paper, but
don't try this on a printer that has a drawer-type tray; it will take longer
to sort out the paper jam than it would to stop the printing by other
methods.

Not a good move in most cases, as you'll cause a godawful paper jam.

What I do... is remove the paper from the tray. At least that cuts the waste
down to the page that's already printing.

Yes, that was the #1 method I mentioned in a long answer in this thread 12
days ago (
