I have gone to Control Panel /Printers and tried to "cancel all documents"
where I see a single job waiting to be printed.and tried to delete it. I
also noticed that there is a copy 2 of the same printer icon . I waited for
at least 30 minutes to no avail.. I tried to go to "File" and tried to
cancel all documents on that printer to no avail.
The one still appears.on my second icon copy of my HP 2570 printer.
I then tried to delete the icon of the second copy of the HP printer. It
did not delete after waiting many minutes.
Is there any other way to delete the second icon and or remove the one
document waiting to be printed.showing under that printer icon? Is there a
software change that can be made in Xp to remove that printer icon.

There are some ways to do this but probably the easiest thing to do is to
uninstall the printer, reboot, make sure that all the icons that refer to your
printer are gone (if not, attempt to delete the printer). Reinstall the printer
but make sure that you do not connect the printer to the PC until the installer
asks you to.

A workaround to delete persistent print jobs was given in PC Advisor
recently:
Open a command prompt, "net stop spooler" <return>; wait a few seconds
then "net start spooler" <return>.

at command line run

net stop spooler
net start spooler

in regedit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers

remove all printers in this key, reinstall drivers.

One way to possibly get rid of leftover drivers:
Open up printers folder (Start/Settings/Printers or equivalent)
Go to File/Server Properties
Gp to the drivers tab
Delete drivers for printers you no longer have (generally, do this after
first uninstalling software normally and/or deleting the icon.)
