Canadian Fonts/language support ?

When browsing a certain Website of a Canadian company, many of the characters
display in IE as squares or odd shapes (although most of the page is readable
in English). My first guess is that the site is using fonts that are not
supported by the local machine. Would the first step in correcting this be
installing some sort of Canadian Language support for IE ? Or would it be
some other issue ? TIA for any help on this one ...

p.s. I added English/Canadian language support but this did not fix the
problem (unless one has to reboot for this to take effect). Squares for some
letters keep showing up and are usually preceded by the letter 'a' with the
^ above it.
