Under the Windows XP Embedded licensing terms, is it ok to show the
"Start menu"? I know there is a limitation regarding making XPE be a
general purpose OS however we just want to have one Application on
that Start menu and we are actually more interested on the task bar
functionality of it.

Thanks,

There is no legal restrictions that I am aware of. You cannot install
products like Office. I have seen a few products that have the Explorer
Shell as the shell - ThinClients for example. You should contact your local
distributor for more information.

What if my program uses the COM interface of Office to do something,
can I install it then? the user won't be using office to do document
creation or editing.

Thanks,

There might be pieces of Office that can be installed for the dedicated
application. Once again, you need to talk to a Microsoft ditributor for more
information on this legal matter.
