Can you save a HDD which is slowing down?

Hey Al
I have a quantum bigfoot ts12 I think it is slowing down(rpm's
and want to know if there is any lubrication maintenance I can do t
save this HDD... ;

No way to re-lube it...
best to backup your data and get a new drive before it fails entirely!

I doubt it's slowing down. If it got harder to turn, the
controller would be on more and either fry out or turn off.

Is it possible you simply have it near full or very
fragmented, thus access is slower?

No you can't lube it. Run the HDD manufacturer's
diagnostics, check the cabling, check the free space and
defrag it. Is it making any funny sounds?
 
How do you know that the RPM is slowing down?

Normaly, drives will fail rather quickly once a fault starts to occure.

If so, backup the drive, and get a new one before it fails. There is
nothing
you can do to save a failing drive. The bearings are sealed, and there
is no access to add lubrication.
