Can you restore all the downloaded updates when you reload XP

Is there a way to back up the downloaded Windows XP updates and if a clean install is needed, restore these files?
I know there is a way but do not know where they put those files and how to get XP to recognize the files.
Any ideas?

Look into the Windows Update Catalog and then go to here:
unattended.msfn.org
 
Thank you but I do not understand what you mean by saying to look in the catalog. WHat is that?
And what is the second part?
