Can you password protect folders in Win2k?

I was wondering if it is possible to have a pop-up window prompt you for a
password whenever you try to access a folder on the network? Does Win2k
support this, or will I need to download some third-party software?

Thanks

Windows 2000 does not natively do such. You can use share/ntfs permissions
to control user access to a share by configuring ntfs/share permissions with
the users or groups that you want to allow access and the level of access.
If a user does not have at least read access to a share, then the user will
not be able to access the share. It is best to put users into appropriate
groups and then assign permissions to the group - either local or domain
local groups. Of course users need to logon and logoff of their own assigned
user account to make this effective. The link below may help. --- Steve
