Can you have 2 PC's hooked to one monitor

Yes you can. I have a switch that allows up to 4 pc's connected to one
keyboard, one mouse and one monitor.

I'm not sure of the words to use here but there are two types and one type
is done through a manual switch and the other is more of I guess a digital
technology type.

Think of the manual switch type as a light switch where inside there is
physical movement of connectors and the switching process moves these
connectors to make contact.

This is the type that you do not want to get because often times you will
loose your mouse or keyboard functionality and have to reboot. My first one
was like this and it sits in the closet now and is free for anyone who wants
it (Boston).

My new one is a Trendnet
(http://www.trendnet.com/products/f_kvm-switches.htm) and is digital and
allows me to switch machines by hitting the scroll lock key twice.

I highly reccommend this type and company. It wasn't that expensive as well.

Thanks a bunch...This looks perfect.
Just one more question...DO you think that a virus could be spread from
one PC to the other with this switching process. WOuld like to use new
PC for Internet and old one for simple word processing etc.
Thanks Again for your input.

Through a KVM switch alone? Zero chance.

Thanks......
