My laptop is completely up to date with regards its virus software, and I
have also run various other utilities to ensure that my laptop is free from
any viruses.

I only access my e-mails via Web mail, non of my e-mails physically reside
on my laptop. When I merely replied to somebody's email a virus attached
itself to the e-mail and got sent to others.

Can you explain?

Thanks in anticipation :)

What was the virus ? many trojans come in through the back door, maybe
your virus scanner didn't or couldn't identify that 1.
Not enough info to give any answers.
virus name, system you are on system the receiver was on, are you
patched to date, do you use a firewall Every time your on the net, is it
configured properly. I posted a reply to Linda earlier today that has a
site with great utilities that shuts down certain ports the Microsoft
default setting leave open. Also on that site
http://www.grc.com/default.htm do a shield up test to see what ports on
your pc are wide open to hackers.
