can you create of forum using front page and will it be easy to maintain?

help would be appriciated

especially if there is some templates of forums already!

many thanks

You can use the FrontPage discussion web -
In FP2003, New->More Website Templates->Discussion Web Wizard

Other versions of FrontPage have the same discussion web - the path to
it may be different.

Note
1) it is best to place the discussion web in its own subweb.
2) The FrontPage discussion web is definitely not immune to Spam attacks
3) The Discussion web often breaks after about 100 posts - though some
installs seem to go on forever.

A better solution is to find the technology (asp, asp.Net, PHP, and
database - mySQL, Access, MS-SQL) your host supports and Google for a
discussion forum using that. Again, best installed in its own subweb.

Thanks Ronx,

May i just ask what you mean by 'in its own subweb'?

i am creating a website that is just a forum, nothing else.

expecting realistically around 500 registered users

i take it you are sugesting not to use FP for such a task?

If you are creating a root website that is just the forum, you don't need to
create a subweb.

As Ron said, the discussion web will easily break, especially if you have
many users, and can be deluged by spammers. It is not very reliable and you
have very little control over maintaining or customizing it.

It also requires that FrontPager server extensions be installed on the host
server.

How were you planning on setting up registered users?

I suggest you follow Ron's suggestions about an alternative.

If the website is just a the forum, then ignore the "in its own
website".
The FrontPage discussion web does not allow registration, so that would
mean extra pages and server side coding, though in any case with 500
users it would likely break after a week of heavy use.
