Hi,
Background on my setup. I have a win 2000 desktop
connected a wireless router thru' ethernet cable and the
router is connected to cable modem. I have a win XP laptop
which accesses the internet thru the router thru cable
modem.

I now want to be able to set up a home network so that I
can share files between my desktop and laptop? How do I go
about doing it? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I went thru' network setup on win xp laptop. I'm not
seeing something similar on win 2000 desktop.

Thanks,
Srini

Of course it can be done. On the Win2k machine it just isn't as easy.
First put both systems in the same workgroup, pick a name any name,
BESIDES THE DEFAULT, and put both in it. The turn off the XP firewall.
Then make an account on the 2k machine with the exact same name and
password that is on the XP machine, that way it won't ask for a name
and password when you try to connect the two. You MUST log on using
the same name and password on BOTH machines for this to work. There
are other ways but stick with this for now.
