Can Windows 2000 be updated?

I did a clean format on my laptop and installed Windows 2000. My version of
Windows 2000 comes with Internet explorer 5.01. But when you try to do an
update at www.windowsupdate.com and press the "check updates" link it takes
you to this site:

https://a248.e.akamai.net/v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/getmanifest.asp

Microsoft just changed to this secure site last week after the "Blaser"
virus.

This is a secure site that takes 128 bit encription. Well IE 5.01 does not
have 128 bit encription so IE gives error 0x800A138F, and says it cannot
reach the site.

So now what?

I don't think your average Joe Blow is going to be able to figure this out!

The average Joe Blow downloads the small encryption executable and then has 128 bit cipher strength. Maybe if the average Joe Blow
cannot download a small program they should have a professional reinstall their operating system as cipher strength may ne the
beginning of a host of other problems.

What I meant is that the average "business executive" would install windows
2000 go to the windows update site see the failure and then be completly
lost. He would not know 128 bit encription from a moon-crater. All he
would know is that he got a failure when he tried to update. And he would
not know what error 0x800A138F is.

If someone would tell him to go to this site and download the software, he
could handle it. But he would never ever know what the problem is or where
to go to get the patch.

I see what you mean. It is just that I took a few minutes to find your link. I have no affiliation with Microsoft other than give
them my money and you came back with a snappy comment that kind of got me thinking you might be one of these ungrateful bas***ds we
have so many of in this country who didn't get *exactly* what they want (but got what they need) and rant and rave like a three year
old. That was my impression. This link will put you in contact with Microsoft (it took awhile to find). If you present a detail
of the problem and a proposed solution such as "put a link right there to get high encryption," or "put a link right there to
upgrade to IE6," you might find them do just that.
