Hi, my friend have a problem with his HP vista home premium desktop pc. He
said he got important documents in the harddisk. So I took the hd out and
fixed it with my sata to usb cable to my Win XP computer.

I was able to see that his harddisk got 3 partitions- 1st partition about
130GB, 2nd partition about 350 Gb, 3e\rd partion called Recovery.

I browse the 1st and 2nd partition with Windows Explorer but can't see any
files or folders. I didn't see \windows or \users.

Does this mean that Win XP can't see Vista partitions? Is there any special
file system or what that makes it so?

Thanks

WinXp can read Vista drives, or any other win drives
What does disk Management say about these partitions

Sata/usb converter cables can be problomatic

The sata-to-usb cable no problem as I can read other sata harddisks. My
conclusion is that my friend did something that causes the data to
disappear. (I found a recovery disk inside the dvdrom drive)

Using my own sata harddisk and the recovery cd, I was able to install
the HP original Vista into my sata hdd. I was also able to read the
\windows and \users folders when I disconnect the sata hdd and fix it to
my win xp computer.

I conclude that my friend did something though he keeps saying he didn't.
