Hi,

I managed to find a file created by someone years ago using Lotu
smartsuite, is there anyway for me to convert them into Exce
worksheets without deteriorating the functionality, ie..the formul
sets within?

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

Gilbert,

In Excel take a look at 'Switching from Lotus 1-2-3' under
the help menu.

If the Lotus extension is .wk? then Excel can open it anyway. Just change the
drop down in the FileOpen dialog box.

As you've already been told, if the extension is .WKS, .WK1, .WK3 or .WK4, Excel
can open it directly as long as you change the file type in the Open dialog. If
the extension is .123, you're out of luck. Only 123 versions from 97 on, Quattro
Pro from version 10 on and DataViz's ConversionPlus can handle .123 files.
Microsoft provides nothing at all to open or convert .123 files, and they've had
over 7 years to come up with something if they had ever intended to do so, so
waiting for anything from Microsoft would be unwise.

But I see that the Lotus file was created with formulas set for th
worksheets. Can Excel recognize the formulas as well? Some of th
formulas (or functions) seem totally alien to me, such as @STRING an
so forth.

Please advise.

Thank you.

Unclear. Do you mean you can open the file in Excel but not all 123 formulas
have converted into Excel formulas? As for @STRING, it's closest to Excel's TEXT
worksheet function. What are the exact @STRING calls?
