Hi!

Can I upgrade a NT4 PDC (officeB) to 2003 DC and join another 2003 DC
(companyname.com) so that it will be officeB.comanyname.com?

Tommy

If I understand you questio right you need a root dc first
(companyname.com). After that you can join your existing
domain as subdom into the forest.

Yes. That is a very commonplace action. It is how many
companies form their forests. When you upgrade the PDC
you will get some choices. You want to create a new
domain and then place it in an already existing tree.

It is imparative though that your DNS is properly
functioning. The upgraded DC will have to be able to add
dynamic updates to the companyname.com zone (as well as to
officeB.companyname.com).

One last thing, I highly recommed bringing up a new DC
after the upgrade. Wait a day or two and then decommision
the upgraded DC. Upgraded OSes never work right.

Just what I wanted to hear. Someone said that I can´t join a 2003 domain
when I upgrade a NT4 PDC to 2003. Maybe its best that I´ll set up a testlab
first. ;-) to be sure.
