Just bought my Dad a Canon MP780 as it looks like the closest current
version of my MPC600F which has been a pretty good machine.
One important difference is 5 ink carts rather than four - the big
black one uses the 3e (water-based) ink like mine for basic printing,
the other 4 are YMC&B cartridges labelled 6e (I think) and I'm told
their inks are oil-based. I presume this is for better photo printing.
My question is whether these oil based inks are much more expensive to
refill, and if so, can the 3e colour cartridges be used instead if
quality photo printing is not a priority?
