Wow, back to june was actaully pretty good. Most systems would crash if you tried that. Well at least most systems that needed to be put back that far.

First question, why do we need factory settings?? Does the recovery disk haven any scratches smudges on it?? (seriously, sometimes the slightet scrtach or smudge destroys those cds)

I'm going to assume that you had a crash, or something has gone terribly wrong in windows. At this point you want to run a recovery but your cd will not be recognised. Insert the cd and restart the computer....if youve done this and it still gives strange error, take the cd out, try to clean it. No windex, rubbing alcohal will work, and don't wipe in circular motions, but rather from inside out in straight lines. Insert the cd and reboot once more..

If still having difficulty we may want to mess with your BIOS, attempt the above and reply to questions and what has happened when rebooting.

I`ve done the above and still it asks me for a recovery cd `that is in the machine`????!!!! i went into bios and made sure it was booting from the correct drive and still no luck???

my prob has been crashing; malicious script and cd`s not booting up.My anti virus software and spyware detects nothing except for the mal script.all sooo confusing!!!
hellpppppppppp................

OK, so we have had errors with this cd drive for a while.....that is to say the recovery cd was not the first cd to not play.

Now you said it was a malicious script error. Can you type that error exactly as it appears. You were on the right track, a sysem restore to an earlier date or a recovery is neccesary, though we are unable to do either.

I'm thinking you have some software damage, and it may have even affected the cd rom drivers. That would explain if several cds which used to work, do not any more.

Does the pc in question have internet access, though I know you may be using the same computer to respond to this post. Go into your device manager and uninstall your cd-rom drivers. Then restart the pc. See if you get a small popup on the right hand side. It should say something like, "new harware found" or "your hardware has been installed and is ready for use" Then lets try that cd again, or any other cd for that matter. Also, if after reinstalling drivers and cds still don't play, try updating drivers via internet.

I'm going to put the error you supply into a Google search to see if anyone else has had similar issues. So I guess between now and next post you may want to do the same, and possibly find an answer before I can post one. I'm sure some of the others here have taken a peak at this one.
