It seems now I cannot surf the Internet, or connect to
the main machine on the local area network. I just
received a lot of syware on my machine. One of them was
Common N Case. After I removed the spyware on my machine,
I'm having trouble with the network. Any suggestions?

Worst spyware is almost as bad as viruses. Perhaps only difference is that
spyware is not infecting files and is not spreading copies of itself. That's
perhaps also the reason why virus scanners are not yet noticing spyware.
Very typical for spyware and other parasites is that they mess all kind of
settings on your computer.
