When I go to some sites, I get an alert box about my ActiveX controls not
being set properly. A pic is how here:
http://home.comcast.net/~cadman_meg/IE.htm

Is this legit or is there a problem? I checked my security options and
things seem normal. Maybe a ploy by some sites to add malware to my system?
Please advise. Thanks.

IE Options>Security tab>Custom level>ActiveX>
Download signed ActiveX controls: Prompt.
Download unsigned ActiveX controls: Disable.
Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe: Prompt or Disable
Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins: Prompt.
Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting: Prompt

And yes, having "fast and easy convenient surfing" can lead to a "Drive-by"
install of junk onto your PC. My settings are Prompt; Disable; Disable;
Prompt; Prompt. I also do not allow Active Scripting, except for sites which
I trust.

Hi,

This message is actually a sign of bad web design. The web designer forgot
to provide some pure html content for the case that ActiveX is disabled.
I have no idea why Microsoft decided to have this message _always_ be shown
in this case without any option to disable it.

But there is nothing for you to worry about. Your security settings seem to
be on the safe side.

hth,
Ralf
