I'm running widows xp home edition. My problem is that
when I restart my pc, the scan disk window opens, like if
I shut down my pc incorrectly, which I didn't. Does
anyone know why this happens, and how do I correct that??
Also, when my pc boots up, the found new hardware wizard
pops up telling me it found new hardware, when no new
hardware has been installed. Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.....Thanks

I'm just guessing, but a failing hard drive that isn't
keeping track of data would do this.

Check your hard drive, including a full surface scan.

Open MY Computer, right click on the drive, select
properties, then Tools. Click error checking, put a check
in both boxes and click OK. Depending on how big and fast
the drive, it can take hours. You may get a warning if you
are running NTFS that the scan will happen when you reboot.

| how would I go about doing a surface scan??
