I installed Vista roughly 3 weeks ago and all I have been having is problems,
so, I decided to go back to XP. The switch back gets interupted after I boot
with the CD and begin installation, it get's as far as starting windows then
it tells me that it doesn't recognize any of my hard drives (I have 2). after
this I tried switching all of the files i wanted to keep to my secondary try
and boot with a dos startup disk and format that way. Again it cannot find
any of my hard drives, partitioning doesn't work. I tried installing Linux
Ubuntu same problem... Can someone please help me I'm getting really
frustrated. I'm moving to a new city in 6 weeks and am counting on being
able to apply online. however the attach files button or any browse for that
matter doesn't work for me.

I don't know why you can't format from dos with a start-up CD, but one
possible solution would be to find a friend who could put your drive in their
machine as a 2nd hard drive and then format it from his/her windows
installation. I was able to delete and reformat my Vista drive (logical)
from WinXP, so I know it is possible. Personally, I made an image of my
partitions before installing Vista so I could easily go back by restoring the
images. That seemed to work, though for you, it's too late for that
now...but next time, image first. I use Terabyte's Image for Dos, an
inexpensive but very good imaging program.

Are your hard drives on a RAID or SATA controller that needs a driver? If
they are then you need to install the driver. With the XP install during the
text portion there is a point where you press F6 to add drivers. Press F6
and insert a floppy disk with the drivers for your controller.
