Hi there ,

we are having a problem whereby it says there is a duplicate name on the
network. Looking at the event I see this:

0028: de 54 10 ac

I understand that offset 28 is the IP, therefore "de 54 10 ac" can convert
to a valid IP address on our network.

I am unsure as to how to do this. I came across some so-called converters -
but they didn't seem to convert the numbers to anything belonging to our
network.

Can someone please convert this one for me.

cheers,

Adam

Hi

Is this an IP from your network?

Thanks Shilpa,

it certainly is (in reverse, i.e. 172.16.84.222) - name is "Server2"

It's a server. There shouldn't be any other server in our organisation
called "Server2"

Does any of you know what may be causing this ?

cheers,

Adam

If the machine is multihomed, that can do it. If there's an old entry in
WINS or in LMHOSTS, that can do it as well.

If multihomed, on the 'external' NIC (assuming that's how you have it
configured), disable NetBIOS, F&P and MS Client services.
