Can someone check my connections

Hi,

On the back of the tower there are five jack points for sound


Blue green Pink
orange grey


At present, I have small speakers plugged into the green jackpoint


I want to use my highfi system to output the sound, and to record
from
the CDplayer, record deck, and tuner.


On the back of the Amp I can use the tape ports:
Rec, Play


I propose to connect a cable form the green output on the tower to
Play on the amp, and to connect a cable from the blue input on the
tower to the Rec on the amp. Is this corerect?


I assume that I could run with just the green to play if I like,
although I will probably connect both.


As a matter of interest, what are the orange and grey jackpoint for
on
the tower.

With regard to which port does what on your PC, the best advice is to read
the manual. If your PC follows the standard, there are loads of guides to
ports' colour coding on the web, such as:http://www.eio.com/public/soundcrd/0428.html

The colour codes on the pc tower are well documented.

My problem comes with the amplifier which is over 25y old, and the
manual is long gone.

Do you think my connections are correct?

Play is probably a Line-In and Rec a Line-Out.
Thus, you'd hook up your PC's line-out to the amp's line-in
(Play) and the PC's line-in to the amp's Line-Out (Rec).

Hook it up and try it. If that doesn't work, swap the
cables around the other way.

It looks like I've got it right.

The reason that I didn't just try it was my fear that if I got the
cables the wrong way round then I might have damaged the electronics
in some way. You obviously don't think damage can be done for a wrong
connection.

You could damage a device by connecting one output to another output. Most electronic devices are very tolerant of such abuse and it is unlikely you will do any damage unless you are using high signal levels. If in doubt test it for a few seconds at low signal levels.
