can small cds or dvds be used in optical drive slot?

I just bought a 13in laptop for travel.
can small software cds and dvds be loaded in the optical drive slot.
I have a dell xps
 
If you are talking about the smaller 80 mm disk or the business card type
disk you really need to read the documentation that came with the laptop.
If this is a slot loading DVD instead of a tray loading unit the smaller
disks and the "business card" disks probably won't work. If this is a drive
that a tray pops out when pushing the button then yes, they will all work.
