Can Shrink (on a form) only works when/if the form is printed, not
when the form is displayed.

so there is no way to bypass it?
for every problem there is a solution so how it can be that you have
the option of can shrink in the detail and you cannot shrink in the form

I just told you.... the form detail section will shrink ... when you
print the form.

From VBA Help:
This property affects the display of form sections and controls only
when the form is printed or previewed, not when the form is displayed
in Form view, Datasheet view, or Design view.

Alas, we can only deal with the way things actually are, rather than the way
we would like them to be.

One of the ways to deal with things you don't like, of course, is to request
that they be changed. But, as CanShrink has worked the same at least since
Access 2.0, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to "fix" it.

I suppose your "solution" could be to print the form, or display the data in
a report, whenever you want to look at it. One could do some "tweaking" in
code, but it would be a lot of work for a feature that isn't high on most
people's priority list.

At its "ultimate," CanShrink will not display the Control to which it
applies. It does not make much sense to shrink the Control completely away
on a Form on the screen, because Forms are used to enter and edit data as
well as to display data, and someone would then be asking for a solution to
entering field data in a Control which is not displayed.
