Thanks nwin

Please make sure the modem you are using is compatible
with Windows XP. The list of modems certified by Microsoft
is at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/catalog/default.aspx?
subid=22&xslt=categoryl2&pgn=01a642fd-2790-420f-90bd-

Also make sure the fax service is configured for receiving
(Printers And Faxes > Fax Printer > Properties > Devices >
Enable Receive)

If the problem still persists, you may have to enable some
extended logging. Please report back with answers and
we'll help you send us the logs.

I'm having a similar problem with the Microsoft Fax tools under Accessories.
I initially had an older version of WinFax w/ Norton Utilities that could
send but not receive at all times. I uninstalled it thinking that maybe I
could get the Microsoft XP Pro Fax capability working instead.

I have configured the settings to enable receive, and my modem appears to be
functioning correctly (test is successful). However, it still will not pick
up an incoming fax successfully.

I then tried to install another fax product (Mighty Fax). This product will
receive faxes but somewhat sporadically and not good quality (garbled,
"scrunched" text) in my limited (only 2 received faxes thus far) testing.

I have a DSL modem connection that I am using to access my service provider
on the same line I use for faxing. Is this a possible issue (e.g., noise)?

Would really appreciate someone's help on this.

Thanks.
