Can SATA controller cards work with SATA-II?

I'm planning on buying a SATA-II hard drive but I need to buy a
controller card for it. I see a lot of SATA controller cards that
don't say anything about supporting SATA-II equipment, do they work
with SATA-II drives or do I need to look specifically for a SATA-II
controller card?
 
As most people only have SATA controllers, it would be foolish for hard
drive manufacturers
to make SATA-II hard drives that do not work on SATA controllers.

On some drivers there's a jumper to run them as SATA-I
