CAN RIP BUT NOT BURN - WHY?

Have Windows XP and used Media Player 10 to rip cd's easily enough. When
wanting to burn it keeps coming up with: "insert a blank CD-R or blank CD-RW
in CD drive (E:) and then try again."

I have done, tried 3 different cd's, rebooted etc. Now what?

Shold say CD drive is external device recently added as D: drive broke.

Help please.
