I have found this in a different discussion. Is Remote
Access Server also required for setting up VPN
connections? Or do I just need to install a protocol to
support PPP

No, you cannot run the server part of Terminal Services on
a W2K
Pro workstation, you can only install the TS client and
connect to
a W2K Terminal Server or a XP Pro workstation with Remote
Desktop
enabled.
For a W2K Pro workstation, you need one of the packages
that you
already have tested. NetMeeting could also be a
possibility.

Hi Clint,
The response you posted as what you found are 2 seperate technologies.
Remote Access is being able to Dial into or VPN into a system for network
connectivity. While Terminal Services or Remote Desktop allows you to
actually have a console session with a system, like you are setting at the
desktop.

With that said, if you are just trying to VPN to a system meaning connect
to a remote network for purposes of file transfer and other network
connectivity related activities, then the answer is YES, you can do that
with W2K Pro or Server.

If you want Remote Control over a system, then you can only do this with
W2K Server. This was not introduced in the desktop version until Windows
XP.

To create a connection on Windows 2000 pro to allow INBOUND VPN connections
you just run the Make New Connection Wizard from the "Network Connections"
Window.

This articles walks you through configuring Pro to Pro or allowing VPN to a
Pro system.
