I have tried most (if not all) ofthe fixes I found on here.

I have disabled e-mail scanning on Avast
I have verified my settings wh my ISP
I get the same error everyone is getting (0x800CCC0E)
I used the WMUtil
I deleted my account and set it up again

Still no luck. Any advice?

Do you get any error message?

Yes I do.

Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR authorization not enabled', Port: 110, Secure(SSL):
No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Actually, I changed two settings (Log on using secure ssword authentication -
OFF & My server requires authentication - ON)

Now, no error, it just processes forever.

Click on Tools> Accounts > your email > Properties > Servers

Make sure "Logon using Secure Password Authentication" is NOT checked..

Also, as a pre-emptive strike again other, future, problems you
should disable email scanning in your anti-virus software.

If you are a Norton or McAfee user... uninstall the POS entirely
and use a free compatible product such as Avast,
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
again with email scanning diabled or better yet omitted during install.

In problem solving it is never a good idea to change 2 settings
simultaneously since it make it difficult to work out if either
change had an effect if it fails or which change solved the
problem if it works.

Eliminate "My server requires authentication - ON"

Other people with your problem have had it fixed by ONLY...

Click on Tools> Accounts > your email > Properties > Servers

I checked and "Logon using Secure Password Authentication" is NOT checked
I have turned outgoing email scanning off on Avast

Still no go!

Try deleting and recreating your email account in Windows Mail
to ensure there's no lingering trace of AV.

Try sending again then post your new error message.

Remember.. it is best to change only one thing at a time.

OK, deleted old account
Restarted windows mail
Recreated account
Sent test e-mail. This time it hung up for 5-10 minutes, then
The connection to the server has failed. Subject '', Account:
'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Yes, except I have the "Leave a copy of messages on server" checked because I
am using the web version right now since Windows Mail is not working.

I've run out of ideas apart from trying port 25 but I believe
Comcast might have stopped that.

Perhaps you could try to get a Gmail account working as a test?

I have now removed every email from Windows Mail, both on the server and on
my computer.

I tried disabling Avast completely and it didn't change anything, still
could not send.

I ran the WMUtil

I'm wondering if I shoud try to reinstall Windows Mail?

I'm off to work now, will try to "repair" Windows mail from the link you gave.

FYI - also tried deleting email account, restarting computer and then adding
the email account. No help

Thanks for all the advice - seems like I have this a bit worse than most.

I thought that link rather complicated.
I'm biased but if I were you I'd try Gmail first to see
if Windows Mail could be eliminated as a problem.

Good luck anyway.
