Hi all,

From an XP box on my LAN, I am able to ping other device on my LAN. When I
attempt to ping the XP box from other devices on my LAN, it just times out.

At first, I thought it was the Windows firewall but it is disabled.

Anything else that I might be missing in this Windows configuration?

Thanks!

Almost always this is a firewall issue.

Check for other firewalls on your computer including "hidden" ones like
the Cisco VPN client whose firewall is enabled even when the VPN client
isn't.

I upgraded IE to version 8. I am unable to down-grade to IE7, is there
something in IE8 that could be causing this?

THAT WAS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was shutting the Cisco VPN client down but the service was still running.
Once I shut the service down, it worked fine.

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!! I can't tell you how long that has been bothering
me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What you need to do is start up the Cisco VPN Client. Then go to:
Options -> Stateful Firewall (Always On)
and uncheck the box in front of it.
You can then quit the client.
No need to stop services.
