I'm really stumped by this one, any assistance would be
great.
I have two machines "networked" with a crossover cable.
Machine 1 is named XP, and is running Win XP Pro.
Machine 2 is named ME, and is running Win Me.
Both machines can ping each other, so I'm asuming the
cable is OK.
Both machines have all of the latest updates. ME gets
it's IP adress automatically from XP. XP has a dialup
connection which provides ICS to ME - this all works fine.
XP also has a PC-cillin firewall, set to trust ME, which
is set by name - the firewall software has no trouble
resolving the IP address from the machine name.
That's the set-up, now here's the problem.
I can map network drives and also browse the XP machine
from the ME machine. What I cannot do, is browse or map
the ME machine from XP. Have tried the following,
Using the search feature in XP to search for computers,
Restarting both machines in various orders - multiple
times,
Turning off the firwall completely,
Running fixed IP adress on ME,
Re-running network wizard on both machines (This fails on
XP, can't recall the exact error msg, though states that
I can re-run the wizard with different settings or
configure manually).
Any ideas???????????????
Thanks
Greg
